Privacy policy
The short version
We don't use cookies, we don't run third-party trackers or ad pixels, and we don't sell your information. We collect only what we need to run this site, answer you, and see which pages and products are useful.
What you send us
When you contact us, register a product, or sign up for email, we keep what you type into that form (such as your name, email, ZIP code and message). We use it only for that purpose: to respond to your message, to register and support your product, or to send the newsletter you asked for. Newsletter sign-ups are confirmed by email first, and every email has an unsubscribe link.
Site analytics (cookieless)
We measure how the site is used with our own first-party analytics. No cookies or other storage are placed on your device, and nothing is shared with an analytics company. We record things like the page you viewed (its address without any query string, apart from campaign tags), the site or campaign link that sent you (referrer and UTM tags), your general device type (phone, tablet or desktop), your country (taken from a network header, not by storing your IP address), clicks on “Buy at Lowe's”, video plays, how far down a page you scrolled, form starts and submits, site searches, and page-speed measurements. We never store your IP address or your full browser identifier.
How we count visitors
To count unique visitors without cookies, we combine your IP address and browser identifier with a random value that changes every day and turn the result into a one-way code. The random value is deleted after the day ends, so the code can't be traced back to you or linked from one day to the next.
How long we keep it
Individual analytics events are deleted after 90 days. After that we keep only daily totals (for example, “120 views of the bolt extractor page”), which contain no visitor codes. Text that visitors type or trigger (site search terms, error messages and addresses of missing pages) is only included in those totals when at least three separate visits share it, and those totals are deleted after 90 days too.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, our analytics script sends nothing at all. If a request still reaches us with either signal (for example a “Buy at Lowe's” link shared elsewhere), we don't create a visitor code or a session for you and count it only in overall totals.
Spam and abuse protection
To limit spam and abuse, we use a one-way, salted code of your IP address to rate-limit form and analytics requests; those rate-limit records are cleared within a day. Contact messages are stored with the same kind of one-way code so repeated abuse can be spotted. Your actual IP address is not stored.
Videos
Our videos are hosted on YouTube and use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Nothing from YouTube loads until you click play, and no YouTube script runs on our pages: we load only the privacy-enhanced player itself and read its play progress through the browser's standard messaging between page and player. Once you start a video, YouTube may store or read information on your device and collect data under Google's own policies. See YouTube's explanation of privacy-enhanced mode.
Purchases at Lowe's
Our “Buy” buttons take you to lowes.com. What happens there, including purchases, is governed by Lowe's own privacy policy.
